Giving Thanks

thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is a time to give thanks. Lot of people are complaining about a lot of things and I hope they can give it a rest on Thanksgiving. I have to consciously remind myself that today is a great day. It is the only today I will ever have because it will become yesterday when I reach tomorrow.

I have concluded if I spend too much time thinking about yesterday, I will not enjoy today.

On the other hand, if I spend all my time worrying about tomorrow, I will once again not enjoy today.

So my intention is to simply enjoy today! So far – so good. Happy Thanksgiving to all.

I am also thankful for the privilege of being able to write books others can read. If you have spare time, check out my books and audiobooks (click here)

What is, is

Listened to some people the other day as they talked about their lives.

Seemed to me they were spending a lot of time worrying about what might happen in the future. When they stopped they filled the remaining spaces being depressed about what had happened in the past.

I decided two things;

 1. I didn’t want to listen to them anymore

 2. It is a lot better if we just live with three words;  What is, is.

Can’t change the past, and sure don’t know what the future holds, but I do know right now; what is, is. j-and-t

And as far as I’m concerned; it is good!

I wrote a book called Forever Yours. It is about a couple who meet in the 60’s and spend their journey together finding out how to remain loving and content as they face the trials and uncertainties of the evolving American dream. Jeff finds his voice in a society undergoing a cultural and emotional revolution. Beth embraces the new independence of the modern woman. Their love grows until in the end, not even death can keep them apart. Click here to see more on Amazon.

Listened to some people the other day as they talked about their lives.

Seemed to me they were spending a lot of time worrying about what might happen in the future, and then filled the spaces in between with being depressed about what had happened in the past.

I decided two things,

 1. I didn’t want to listen to them anymore

 2. It is a lot better if we just live with three words,  What is, is.

Can’t change the past, and sure don’t know what the future holds, but I do know that right now, what is, is. If you continue this thought, you will also realize the another truth is “This too shall pass”.

So there are now 7 words for peaceful living; “What is, is” and “This too shall pass.” This leaves me in a place where only the current moment exists and as far as I am concerned, it is good.

In my book FOREVER YOURS, a couple explores the adventure of life from college in the 60’s to retirement in the 2000’s. Of all my books, this is the one I enjoyed writing the most as it was about my generation’s journey. Take a look at Amazon to see all my books. BookCoverPreview.do

7 Words for Contentment

summer picWhen I’m in situations, which seemed to be going against my desires or expectations, there were two sets of thoughts I found to be helpful. One contains four words “THIS TOO SHALL PASS”, and the other three words, “WHAT IS, IS”.

Think of what you individually were doing five years ago. It may have been a wonderful time or a very painful time, but in either case, it is now in the past. The same thing applies to today. Five years from now, all you are experiencing will be a part of history and you will be involved in new challenges and adventures. So whatever is going on, remember, THIS TOO SHALL PASS.

Today, however, there may be difficult things happening, which may provide roadblocks to our dreams. If we demand what is happening shouldn’t be happening, we have to again ask, how much control do I have over these circumstances? Most likely, very little. Thus, look at the circumstances of today and admit, WHAT IS; IS. We may not like what is, but let’s face reality, what is; is. Now let’s work on solution rather than demanding the problem should not exist.

WHAT IS; IS.  THIS TOO SHALL PASS.  Seven word for contentment. Let me know what your thoughts are by entering them in the comment section below.

In my new book “Off the Hook”, Laura explores life as a journey from fear to love. In this journey she truly discovers the reality of these seven words. New Life Review says. “Similar to the novel ‘EAT, PRAY, LOVE’, it is an exciting story able to transform the reader’s life.” (Click here)

Inspiration

Inspiration –

I was looking at a very peaceful location deep in the inland waters of southern Long Island NY. The vivid green of the marsh grass contrasted brilliantly with the light blue sky and the deep blue waters. The sun played a melody, which wove these natural tapestries into a very inspiring atmosphere. And what was my inspired thought –“I wonder if I could hide a dead body in the grass or would it float out at high tide?”

I worry about me sometimes. Everything seems to turn into a plot in a book.

Talking to a friend about an Irish police chief he once knew who danced an Irish jig when he was under pressure. Yep, that character worked his way into my book Signal 30.

My wife shared some thought she had on Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) and that conversation turned into my book PSYCH.

Went on a beautiful trip to Mexico and the beach ended up in a new book I am writing.

I’m happy to be inspired, but I often wish I could just enjoy what is going on without trying to make it a book. Wait – maybe I could write about someone who writes a blog and then ends up living out everything he writes – oh, oh. Just did it again.

Any thoughts on inspiration?

Thursday Thought

Image

Today is Thursday.  It may not mean much to you but to me it is a milestone of the week. Two days every week I leave the security of my home near the ocean and journey into the chaotic madness known as Manhattan, New York. Wednesday is the first day I go there, which is easier as five days have expired since my last trip and I am refreshed.

Then comes Thursday, which is the second day in the city and I am excited because it signals to me that tomorrow I will once again be in the peaceful confines of my home by the ocean.

Some may view this as a negative outlook on Manhattan, but I prefer to see it as a rational approach to a task. I used to love the city and lived in it for many years. However, after 911 it just wasn’t the same, so I moved to the peace and quiet of the suburbs.

So, as I sit on the train going into Manhattan, I rejoice. Today is Thursday which means tomorrow is Friday. To me, this is a very peaceful thought.
